#FitForTheFrontLine

May 26 – June 14, 2020

Yale New Haven Health and Yale Medicine are joining forces with medical centers across the United States in a nationwide movement of physical activity to honor and support frontline health care workers who have worked tirelessly to save lives. Inspired by Captain Tom’s pledge to walk 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday, #FitForTheFrontLine is a national fitness challenge that encourages people of all ages to move, exercise, and get fit to increase awareness and raise funds to support our nation’s health care heroes.

Will you join us?

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, Yale Medicine physicians and frontline staff at each of Yale New Haven Health System’s (YNHHS) five hospitals have met the historic challenge in the war against the virus. Now, the #FitForTheFrontLine Challenge empowers you to support them during this still-challenging time. It is easy to participate! Simply choose any activity; dedicate your activity to Yale New Haven Health and Yale Medicine; and ask your friends, family and social network to make a donation to show their support. Click here to donate.

Fit for the Frontline Fund

Proceeds you help raise from the #FitfortheFrontLine Challenge will support a special fund at YNHHS, which will provide vital resources to help confront the psychosocial impact of COVID-19 on frontline health care providers and support staff. The Covid-19 Fit for the Frontline Fund will support ongoing mental health and wellness assessments, therapeutic workshops, support groups and individual interventions for Yale Medicine physicians and medical and support staff involved in all aspects of patient care during the pandemic at YNHHS hospitals.

What is that funny circle at the top of the page?

Glad you asked! That is a Flowcode™. Simply open the camera on your smart phone, point it at the code and you’ll be prompted to open a link that takes you directly to the donation page. You can right click on the flow code to copy and paste it into your social media posts. Be sure to post your reason for supporting our frontline heroes along with photos of your activity and include #FitForTheFrontLine #YNHHS.

Be creative and have fun!

During this extended time of isolation we have all been experiencing, individuals and families are going to great and creative lengths to stay fit and keep moving. Exercise has a positive impact on our mental health and can provide a sense of normalcy too. When you participate in the #FitForTheFrontLine Challenge, the choice is all yours! Think about an activity you enjoy and can do, either at home or outside and commit to doing it between May 26th and June 14th. You can do it once or multiple times. Challenge your family and friends to participate too and ask for their support.

Here are some great examples from participants:

  • I’m dedicating my walk around the block to #FitForTheFrontLine
  • I’m climbing my stairs 10 times and donating to #FitForTheFrontLine.
  • I challenged my brother to run 10 miles and make a donation to #FitForTheFrontLine.
  • My kids and I will work out for 30 minutes in support of #FitForTheFrontLine every day this week.
  • To get #FitForTheFrontLine, my grandkids are playing hopscotch. Donate to the fundraiser for front line heroes.

Get started today by letting your friends and family know how you will be participating (walking, biking, climbing stairs, etc). You can post to your social media and share why you want to support our frontline heroes!
